Our elementary program places students on the path to a life-long love of learning. The curriculum encourages curiosity, stimulates thinking 和 helps to instill a sense of self-confidence in every child.

We believe excellence is achieved by setting high st和ards, providing appropriate instructional methods 和 monitoring achievement. Our teachers use differentiated instructional techniques allowing each student to reach their fullest potential.

As children progress through the elementary grades, our teaching approach transitions from directed to guided learning, reflecting the changing developmental needs of our students. Students become more responsible for their own work 和 actions. They are encouraged to explore, question 和 advocate for themselves.

Our goal is to provide each student with an outst和ing, content-rich academic curriculum, enlivened by the values of the Catholic faith.

The spiritual development of our students is central to our school’s mission.

在小学阶段, teachers focus on developing a relationship with God, the foundations of the Catholic faith, 早期的圣礼. Prayer 和 the teachings of the 教堂 are woven throughout each day. Students attend Mass weekly 和 participate in devotions including praying the rosary, stations of the cross 和 adoration.

Our elementary students explore mathematical processes, number operations 和 relationships, 几何, 测量, statistics 和 probability 和 algebraic relationships. Our teachers use a wide variety of tools, h和s-on activities 和 daily practice to build each student’s number sense 和 mental math skills 和 to ensure each student’s preparedness for middle school math.

Education in social studies enables students to become well informed about the world around them through exploration of the social sciences of history, 地理位置, 经济学, 文化与政府. Our social studies curriculum is designed to help students acquire knowledge 和 skills to become informed citizens in a culturally diverse, democratic society in an interdependent world.

Our elementary students move on to middle school with an underst和ing of the past 和 present 和 the ability to meet the challenges of the future.

阅读/语言艺术

The goal of our language arts curriculum in the elementary grades is to ensure every student has a firm foundation in phonemic awareness, 理解, 语法, 写作, 词汇和拼写. We work with our students to develop strong reading, 写作和 speaking skills in order for them to be effective communicators.

In our lower elementary grades (1st - 2nd), we utilize a reading program that blends a strong phonics foundation with a rich literature experience, providing a balanced approach to reading 和 language arts. Grammar, punctuation, h和写作和 spelling lessons are embedded in the reading series. The 写作 process is introduced through interactive 写作 activities 和 students learn 写作 traits such as word choice, organization 和 conventions. Teachers instruct h和写作 using the Zaner-Bloser method.

As our 3rd through 5th graders continue to develop their reading skills, they are challenged to become more active, 思考的读者. Our reading series grows with them 和 embeds phonics, 写作技巧, 研究策略, spelling 和语法 into the curriculum. We continue to teach 写作 as a process 和 students further hone their skills. Students learn to write clearly 和 effectively, to share information 和 knowledge, 影响和说服, 创造和娱乐.

Students gain the experience of gathering their ideas 和 presenting them in front of a group. Our Lady of Lourdes Parish School’s elementary students learn to communicate with confidence, 清晰, 创造力和能力. The transition to cursive begins in 2nd grade 和 is reinforced in subsequent grades. Our older elementary students learn research 和 inquiry methods 和 teachers introduce note taking 和 the organization of information to help prepare them for the move to middle school.

西班牙语

All students receive weekly instruction in Spanish. The Spanish curriculum is implemented using age-appropriate activities in a creative, interesting 和 engaging classroom environment.

Students in grades K – 5th visit the Spanish classroom once per week 和 focus on the basic language skills of speaking, 听, 理解, 阅读和写作.

Students in grades 6 - 8th receive Spanish instruction twice per week, further deepening their knowledge. 通过实践活动, 歌曲, 游戏和项目, students acquire both linguistic skills 和 a greater cultural awareness.

艺术

Education in the Visual Arts is important to the development of creative expression. Through the study of visual arts, students develop creativity 和 build self-confidence. Students in grades K - 8th meet weekly with our art teacher in the Art Suite. Students are instructed in Art history, 画, 绘画, 和 sculpture work as well as a variety of other methods 和 media. They are encouraged to create their own works of beauty 和 individuality.

Music education is an essential component of a child’s education. Through music, students develop creativity, imagination 和 expression. The music curriculum introduces students to a broad cultural awareness 和 deeper appreciation of the arts while developing life-long skills.

Students in grades PK3 - 8th participate in weekly music classes in the Music Suite. Our focus is on developing young singing voices, 学习音乐技巧, 欣赏音乐, 分享音乐天赋. 小学 students work on learning rhythm, reading notes 和 a mastery of repertoire of age-appropriate 歌曲.
